Coinciding with the directive to increase the base pay of military and uniformed personnel (MUP) for the next three years, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. created an Inter-Agency Technical Working Group (IATWG) to conduct a comprehensive review of the current MUP pension system.

Under Executive Order 107 issued on Wednesday, the IATWG will be composed of representatives from the Department of Budget and Management, Department of Finance, Bureau of Treasury, and Government Service Insurance System.

The comprehensive review of the current MUP pension system aims to ensure a sustainable and equitable pension system.

The IATWG is also tasked to formulate and recommend draft legislation, as may be necessary, based on the results of the review.

In line with this, All MUP agencies are directed to provide the necessary technical, administrative, and logistical support to the IATWG to facilitate a comprehensive review.

Within 30 days from the effectivity of the EO, member-agencies of the IATWG and concerned MUP agencies are mandated to designate their respective authorized representatives to participate in the review process.

The IATWG will then submit its report regarding the MUP pension system review to the Office of Executive Secretary within 180 days from the effectivity of the EO.

Aside from the base pay hike, Marcos also announced that the subsistence allowance of all MUP shall be at the rate of P350 per day starting Jan. 1, 2026.

“Naniniwala ang Administrasyong ito na ang mga nagtatanggol sa bayan ay nararapat ding protektahan ng pamahalaan,” the President said in a video statement. “Makatarungang sahod at sapat na suporta, ito ang handog ng sambayanan sa ating mga tagapagtanggol.”
