PBBM orders swift completion of key projects in Zamboanga Peninsula

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has ordered concerned agencies and local governments to fast-track the implementation and construction of key infrastructure projects in Zamboanga Peninsula to enhance connectivity and drive regional growth.

The President made the directive during a meeting with Cabinet officials and members of the key Regional Development Council (RDC) IX at Camp Major Cesar Sang-an in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur on Thursday.

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the meeting centered on high-impact projects in the region, including fish ports, roads, seaports, and airports, to strengthen connectivity between communities and markets.

“Napag-usapan nila, nag-focus po sila sa mga proyekto, nandito po ang sinasabing Zamboanga Fish Port Complex na maaari pong matapos na ngayong taon,” PCO Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing Friday.

Other priority infrastructure projects discussed were the Sindangan-Bayog-Lakewood Road; Improving Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project; Daang Maharlika Improvement; Western Nautical Highway Network Improvement; and Coastal Roads along Rock Dive Inn, Crystal, Azul Mar, Love, Pangpang, and Solaj beaches, which are targeted to be completed in the next two years.

“At nais po ng Pangulo at inutos po niya, lalong-lalo na po sa DepEd (Department of Education) na i-prioritize po ang education and skills training pati po ang pagtapos ng mga proyekto na siyang magpapaangat sa buhay ng mga Pilipino, magpapa-improve sa education, at magkaroon po ng modernisadong agri-fisheries development projects,” Castro said.

The President visited Zamboanga del Sur on Thursday for the inauguration of the rehabilitated Mahayag Dam aimed at ensuring farmland irrigation, boosting agricultural productivity, and flood mitigation.
