Underscoring the need to address the significant backlog in projects that would benefit the riding public, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. welcomed notable developments in the construction of the Metro Manila Subway Project.
This came as he led the groundbreaking ceremony of the NAIA Terminal 3 Station and its connecting tunnels between Taguig City and Pasay City under Contract Package 109 on Wednesday.
In his remarks, the President noted the urgency of modernizing the country’s railway infrastructure, which goes beyond relying on improved roads to carry people to and from their destinations, and providing an alternative public transport system that enhances connectivity across the country.
“Our people need a public transport system that gives them a real alternative, one that is efficient, dependable, and connected to the places where we live, study, work, and travel.
Our investors and tourists need to know that they can rely upon a transport system that can bring them to where they need to be and want to be in the most efficient manner that is possible.”
Apart from linking the underground railway to Manila’s international gateway, CP 109 will introduce advanced engineering methods that will ensure unhampered construction while maintaining the integrity of existing infrastructure above ground.
As of press time, the project’s completion rate is pegged at nearly 60%, as work continues across much of its alignment after successfully securing 100% of the station-area right-of-way.
Once complete, the Metro Manila Subway is expected to slash travel time between Valenzuela City and NAIA from one hour and 30 minutes to just 40 minutes.
