Malacañang on Thursday slammed Vice President Sara Duterte’s “baseless and substantiated” claim about alleged efforts to extend President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s six-year term through a Charter change.

“Mas nakakahiya sa ngayon ang magkomento pa sa mga walang basehan at walang sustansyang pahayag ni VP Sara Duterte,” Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro said in a statement.

Usec. Castro made the statement in response to Duterte’s allegations that the latest political developments are part of the ongoing efforts to alter the government structure to enable Marcos to stay in power beyond his term.

Duterte claimed that the plan to impeach her, the enforcement of International Criminal Court’s arrest warrants against her allies, and the escalating political tensions are calculated moves to weaken the opposition.

She also accused the Marcos Jr. administration of utilizing government resources to succeed in its demolition job, adding that it would later push for constitutional amendments to extend the President’s political power.

She said Marcos even mentioned in his recent interview with Bloomberg his plan to discuss Charger change, adding that it is an indication that the Chief Executive “will not step down.”

Castro brushed aside Duterte’s misinformation and disinformation.

“Ang kailangan natin ay isang public servant na nagseserbisyo sa bayan at taumbayan at hindi yung ang alam lang ay gumawa ng intriga at fake news,” she said.
