Majority of Filipinos continue to support President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. as an OCTA Research Group survey showed his trust and performance ratings rise in the second quarter of 2024, while Vice President Sara Duterte’s ratings dropped.
According to the results of OCTA’s survey released Tuesday, Marcos’ trust rating increased to 71% from 69% in the first quarter of 2024. Only 10% expressed their “distrust” toward the President, while 19% are undecided.
On the other hand, Duterte received a 65% trust rating in the second quarter, three-points lower than the 68% recorded in the first quarter of 2024. Some 11% of the respondents distrust her, while 24% are undecided.
“It must be noted that the VP Duterte trust and performance ratings continue to trend downward for the second straight quarter in 2024,” OCTA Research stated.
The President earned his highest trust rating in Balance Luzon at 80%—considered to be the Marcos family’s political stronghold—followed by Metro Manila (70%), the Visayas (69%), and Mindanao (56%).
Trust in the president by adult Filipinos has been recorded across socioeconomic classes, from Class ABC at 74%, followed by Classes D (71%) and E (66%).
Duterte, meanwhile, obtained her highest trust rating in her bailiwick, Mindanao at 95%—followed by the Visayas (66%), Metro Manila (60%), and Balance Luzon (52%).
The Vice President also earned her highest trust rating from adult Filipinos belonging to Class E (68%), followed by Classes D (65%) and ABC (64%).
In terms of performance, Marcos’ approval improved by three points from last quarter’s 65%. Duterte got 60% in the second quarter of 2024, a four-point decline from the previous quarter’s rating.
Approval of the Chief Executive’s performance remained in Balance Luzon (75%), followed by Metro Manila (68%), the Visayas (65%), and Mindanao (56%).
The Vice President, likewise, received her highest performance rating in Mindanao (92%), followed by the Visayas (60%), Metro Manila (50%), and Balance Luzon (48%).
The pollster also reported that adult Filipinos belonging to Classes ABC approved Marcos’ performance (71%), followed by Classes D (68%) and E (64%). Conversely, Duterte got her highest performance rating from Class E (65%), followed by Classes D (60%) and ABC (56%).
Based on the survey, the majority of Filipinos continue to trust the leaders of the 19th Congress—with Senate President Francis Escudero getting a 67% trust rating and House Speaker Martin Romualdez receiving 62%.
The second quarter Tugon ng Masa survey was conducted from June 30 to July 5, 2024 via face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adult Filipinos aged 18 years and above. – iro
