PCC to probe cartels manipulating meat prices

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) is set to investigate the alleged cartel that is controlling the high price of meat.

In today’s Laging Handa Public Briefing, PCC Commissioner Johannes Bernabe stated that a cartel damaging the competition in the market is a violation of the Philippine Competition Act. He stated that a “holistic approach” and the cooperation of other government agencies are needed to succeed in the investigation.

Bernabe added that hoarders who do not release their inventories to manipulate the price of the meat will also be investigated. However, he admitted that investigators are currently facing a challenge due to the community quarantine.
