PCG offers ‘libreng sakay’ to students on first day of classes

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) offered “libreng sakay” (free ride) to students on the first day of face-to-face classes on Monday, Aug. 22.

PCG Commandant CG Admiral Artemio Abu said the initiative aims to reduce the expenses of students at the start of the School Year 2022-2023.

Free bus rides started as early as 6:00 a.m. Students were picked up at Quezon City Hall and were dropped off at University Belt in España, Manila.

The “libreng sakay” will be until 7:00 p.m.

Filipino students returned to in-person classes on Monday two years after the COVID-19 pandemic forced schools to close.

Over 28 million students, both from private and public schools, have enrolled for this school year.

Meanwhile, the implementation of full face-to-face classes is slated to start in November.
