An ailing Filipino crew of a Norwegian-flagged tanker vessel, MT Bow Neon was successfully evacuated by the Philippine Coast Guard last night, July 23.

Bahalla Andrew Calipes, 43, suffered from stroke which resulted to the weakness of his face, right arm, hand, leg and inability to speak.

The Coast Guard Public Affairs Office (CGPAO) received an email from Captain Yevgeniy Stokolos, Master of said foreign flagged vessel requesting for the medical evacuation of Calipes. Subsequently, CGPAO coordinated with the Coast Guard Action Center (CGAC) in Manila and Coast Guard District National Capital Region- Central Luzon (CGDNCR-CL) for appropriate action. CGDNCR-CL then directed BRP Malabrigo (MRRV 4402) a multi-role response vessel to rendezvous with MT Bow Neon.

MT Bow Neon arrived at vicinity of Corregidor Island, Bataan at around 10:30PM, yesterday and the ailing crew was immediately transferred onboard BRP Malabrigo (MRRV 4402) enroute back to Manila. Calipes was then met by the foreign vessel’s agent and was rushed to Manila Doctors Hospital in Ermita, Manila for proper medical treatment. (PCG)
