Communications Secretary Martin Andanar delivers a speech at the launch of the Bureau of Communications Services’ Executive Action magazine at the Kalayaan Hall, Malacañang on July 19, 2019.
The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) and the Bureau of Communications Services (BCS) launched on Friday a new publication that puts highlights national and local government executives’ efforts to serve the public.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar expressed optimism that the “Executive Action” magazine will “inspire” government officials to work harder for the people.
He added that the magazine will give government officials, even President Rodrigo Duterte’s alter egos, a chance to display their efforts in the field of public service.
“It will give the executives, whether in the national government or the local government units, an opportunity to showcase their works and inspire other executives in the government to strive even harder,” the PCOO chief said during the launch of the Executive Action magazine in Manila.
The Cabinet official also lauded the BCS for the successful launching of the new platform, stressing the importance of recording the country’s progressive changes.
“The challenges of government work will always be daunting, and the writing of its chronicles reflects history in progression,” Andanar said.
“There could be no better record of major executive functions than the narratives and images in a magazine format. Pictures, as often said, say more than words and portray the truth more graphically,” he added.
Aside from keeping a record of the major programs under the Duterte presidency, the magazine also features the big shifts in policy triggered by Presidential actions and discusses the resulting change and their positive impact on Filipinos.
The maiden issue, titled “Power House,” centers on the administration’s inter-agency solution to the traffic congestion in Metro Manila.
Packed with interviews from key officials of various government agencies comprising the Inter-Agency Council on Traffic, the magazine discusses their respective agency’s involvement in alleviating traffic woes in the country’s major metropolitan areas.
“Power House” also tackles the invaluable contributions of the local government leagues in nation-building.
Moreover, national presidents of various leagues of LGUs will also be featured, highlighting their ongoing and upcoming projects to promote local autonomy, good governance, and programs supportive of the national government’s 0 to 10-point Socioeconomic Agenda.
For Andanar, the newest periodical will serve as the “testimony of our President’s vision for the people, together with the impact of the executive work, within the highest level of governance.”
He also mulled that the magazine will become one of the government’s many instruments in fighting disinformation.
“This is important because we now have a new platform, [designed] in a magazine format, which people can discuss the ways and steps how to dismiss disinformation,” the PCOO chief said.
“If you have a platform like this, you have a wider possibility to circulate your message [to the people] and to dismiss this disinformation,” he added.
Now second in the series of a new line of publications introduced by BCS this year, the introduction of the Executive Action magazine remains part of the Duterte administration’s #DismissDisinformation campaign.
In March this year, the bureau launched the bi-monthly “Balita Central” newspaper, aiming to dispel fake news by delivering accurate information directly to the Filipino people.
Meanwhile, Transportation Asst. Sec. BGen. Manuel Gonzales and Isabela 6th District Rep. Faustino Dy V, a former National President of Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas, were keynote speakers of the said event. PCOO Undersecretary George Apacible also graced the event, along with actor Robin Padilla.
