MANILA — Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar was among the personalities recognized at the Gawad Filipino Awards held on Monday night (Dec. 17).

Gawad Filipino Awards presented Andanar with the Dangal ng Sambayanang Filipino Award for Pinaka Mahusay sa Panglilingkod Bayan during the awarding ceremony at Tanghalang Pasigueño in Pasig City.

Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) Executive Director Joel Sy Egco received the award on behalf of Andanar.

Gawad Filipino Awards recognizes individuals, organizations, and companies as awardees for categories such as Dangal ng Sambayanang Filipino; Dangal ng Bayang Filipino; Dangal ng Kawal ng Bayan; Dangal ng Husay at Galing; and Media People’s Choice Awards in their field of endeavors.

Last month, Andanar was awarded the ‘Most Outstanding Public Servant’ during the 2nd Diamond Golden Awards held at Marco Polo Hotel Ortigas in Pasig City.

Last October, Andanar was recognized by the National Press Club (NPC) for his support to press freedom and the welfare of the Philippine media community.

Under Andanar’s leadership, the PCOO’s attached media agencies particularly People’s Television Network (PTV), Radyo ng Bayan, Radio-Television Malacañang (RTVM) and Philippine News Agency (PNA) have improved significantly in just less than two years.

Andanar has also pushed to revert the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) to the Office of the Press Secretary (OPS).

At present, he is only awaiting the President’s signature.

Prior to joining the Duterte administration, Andanar was a multi-awarded television news executive, news anchor, radio commentator, podcaster, audio blogger and voice-over artist at TV5.
