PCOO chief vows support for Capiz journos

MANILA — Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar has vowed to support the local media in Capiz province, including the improvement of the journalism profession and the condition of media practitioners there.

Andanar made this commitment as he graced the Tapaz Annual and Religious Fiesta 2018 in Tapaz, Capiz last Sunday, where he rallied the town officials and residents to continue supporting the Duterte administration’s campaign against illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality.

In his speech, Andanar praised the local officials of Tapaz, Capiz for the improvements they’ve made in the town and encouraged them to continue making strides toward a successful and peaceful locality.

“May Tapaz be a continuing celebration of all goodness and growth that the town has achieved, together with the strength and industry of the people, and may you always remain a model of the profoundness of a simple life,” he added.

Mayor Roberto Palomar praised the PCOO chief for taking time out of his hectic schedule to attend the town fiesta.

Palomar expressed hope that President Rodrigo R. Duterte would recognize the town’s progress and provide its local government with resources to help improve the lives of their residents.

Andanar, meanwhile, said Duterte would definitely want to see for himself the town’s efforts to strengthen and continue the administration’s drive to curb illegal drugs, corruption, and criminality.

The communications secretary talked to some members of the local media in the province, and assured them that PCOO is always ready to help them to the best of the department’s capacity.

In 2016, Duterte has created the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS), which is tasked to address the media killings and other media-related cases in the country.

PTFoMS is co-chaired by Department of Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra and Andanar, while former media practitioner, Undersecretary Joel Egco, is its executive director. (PNA)
