MANILA — As part of the efforts to intensify information dissemination on COVID-19, the Kapisanan ng mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) on Monday has agreed to help air accurate information on COVID-19.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar lauded the decision of the media organization to do so.

“Tayo din ay nagagalak at nagpapasalamat sa Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas sa kanilang pakikiisa sa gobyerno at sa sambayanang Pilipino para po maiwasan itong tinatawag na COVID-19 (We are pleased and grateful to the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas for being one with the government and the Filipinos to prevent [further spread of the] COVID-19),” he said.

In a meeting among officials of the KBP, PCOO Secretary Andanar and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, KBP President Ruperto Nicdao Jr., said they will air infomercials as public service announcements to their media outlet members, including radio and television stations.

Nicdao Jr. made the announcement shortly after the Laging Handa press briefing on the updates in the situation of the health emergency in the country.

“Sa ngalan po ng lahat ng miyembro ng KBP, ang officers ng Board of Trustees ng KBP, ipinapaabot po namin sa pamunuan ng ating pamahalaan, through Secretary Andanar, na ang KBP ay nakikiisa para sa proper information dissemination tungkol sa COVID-19 (The members of the KBP, and the officers of the Board of Trustees of the KBP, we are extending to the government, through Secretary Andanar, that we are one with the efforts for proper information dissemination on COVID-19),” he said as he underscored that they are looking forward to how this will likewise combat the spread of fake news on the issue.

Information collaterals produced by government offices, especially from the Department of Health and the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO), will regularly update the public on the government’s efforts to contain the disease will be featured on air.

“Ang objective po natin dito ay para maging kalmado po tayo, hindi tayo magkaroon ng maling impormasyon, yung tama lang po para we can react and solve the problem that we are facing right now (Our objective is for us to remain calm, while ensuring that won’t have the wrong information, just the right information so we can react and solve the problem that we are facing right now),” he added.

KBP’s Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Herman Z. Basbaño, reiterated the commitment of the largest media organization in the country.

“It is an association of networks, kaya’t gagamitin natin ang mga facilities and infrastructure ng KBP, the biggest media organization, para tulungan ang kampanya laban sa COVID-19 (It is an association of networks, we will utilize all the facilities and infrastructure of the KBP, the biggest media organization, in order to help in the campaign against COVID-19),” he said.
