MANILA — Aimed at fighting disinformation by connecting top officials of the Executive branch with the local media, the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) launched The Presser Weekend in Muntinlupa City on April 6.
“Today we are holding the pilot episode of The Presser Weekend in the city of Muntinlupa, which aims to amplify the words described in policies, programs, and projects,” Presidential Communications Secretary Martin M. Andanar said in his opening remarks.
“Government work is delivered directly without the fancy ornaments of progapanda, and every presidential pronouncement is underlined with the compliance and benefit of all sectors affected,” he said.
Andanar reiterated that the PCOO is committed to fight and correct disinformation by extolling the truth.
“Our work is a continuing process of summarizing, simplifying, and satisfying the fundamental need to inform. We remove ambiguity, we clarify the obscure, we correct the false, we extol the truth. We drive hard objective realities of achievements and shortcomings. We do not fascinate, neither do we compromise. We press. This is a commitment of the presser. May this occupation be the responsibility of all,” Andanar said.
The Virtual Presser
Andanar also provided the media a snapshot of what to expect from PCOO in coming days.
PCOO, he said, will also launch soon The Virtual Presser, which caters to foreign media, or journalists based abroad.
“In weeks time we are also launching The Virtual Presser, which is the PCOO’s interactive online video platform for engaging the global media and foreign audiences. This will be another opportunity for us to connect the international audiences to respond to pressing issues and enable foreign journalists to ask questions without leaving their desks,” Andanar said.
The Virtual Presser will be led by the Office of the Global Media Affairs, an arm of the PCOO that is tasked to connect Philippine government policymakers with the international media, and promote priority policy messages through engagements with foreign audiences.
The pilot episode of The Presser Weekend showcased the accomplishments, and updates on the projects of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) with Secretary Arthur P. Tugade.
