LEGAZPI CITY — The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) through its Freedom of Information-Project Management Office (FOI-PMO) will hold an information literacy roadshow here next week.

In an interview on Wednesday, Sally Altea, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) information center manager for Albay, said the PCOO is conducting the roadshow “as part of our Information, Education and Communication Campaign (IECC) to increase media and information literacy to promote responsible handling and sharing of information and end the proliferation of fake news; inform stakeholders of our efforts to enhance the protection of our local media through the Presidential task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS)”.

She said they are targeting to gather some local leaders, civil society organizations, non-government organizations, media practitioners and stakeholders for the advocacy activities slated March 25-26.

Altea said the roadshow will commence at the Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology in Camarines Sur on March 25 and conclude at the Bicol University in Albay, to be graced by PCOO Secretary Jose Ruperto Martin Andanar, the following day.

She added the roadshow aims to promote gender equality through the Gender and Development Focal Point System (GAD FPS); raise civic awareness on transparency and accountability in governance through Freedom of Information and to partner with educational institutions on including the FOI program in their curricula and promoting FOI as an academic tool for research.

Also expected to participate in the activities are PTFoMS Executive Director, Undersecretary Joel Sy Egco; PCOO Assistant Secretary for Operations and Legislative Affairs Ana Maria Paz Rafael; PCOO Assistant Secretary for Brand Integration Ramon Cualoping III; and PCOO Assistant Secretary and FOI Philippines Director, Lawyer Kristian Ablan.

The PCOO event will carry the theme, “Be Informed, Be engaged. Know your government better”.
