PCSO welcomes Pinili as chairman

MANILA — The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) welcomed the appointment of retired police general Anselmo Simeon Patron Pinili as chairman, replacing Jose Jorge Elizalde Corpuz.

Pres. Rodrigo Duterte signed Pinili’s appointment on January 15 to “serve the unexpired term of office that began on 1 July 2017 and will end on 30 June 2018” to replace Corpuz, who resigned due to health reasons.

Pinili, a retired general, served under the Philippine National Police (PNP) and was head of the Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crime prior to his appointment to the PCSO.

He was given a Distinguished Service Medal for serving 35 years in government. He was awarded the PNP Special Service Medal for being the Deputy Regional Director for Administration for two years at the Davao Region’s Police Regional Office.

PCSO General Manager Alexander Balutan expressed his full support to Pres. Duterte for appointing Pinili to the board.

“I’m proud to say that General Pinili is my mistah (classmate) at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Matikas” Class 1983. The PCSO family welcomes his appointment,” Balutan said.

Balutan thanked Pres. Duterte for his continued trust in his leadership and the institution.

Corpuz, a member of PMA “Sandigan” Class ’82, resigned as chairman due to health problems and pressures from his wife and children.

Corpuz left the agency in the middle of a controversy started by newly appointed board member Sandra Cam who questioned the more than PHP6 million “extravagant” Christmas party at the Edsa Shangri-La. Cam alleged that the Christmas party was worth PHP10 million. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
