PCW, PCOO tie up for ASEAN gender mainstreaming confab

MANILA — The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) has teamed up with the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) as the country hosts the Senior Officials Conference on Gender Mainstreaming in the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Sectoral Bodies this week.

In her letter addressed to PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar, PCW Executive Director Emmeline Verzosa has requested for media coverage of the three-day conference slated on June 27-29 at Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.

She said the PCW is the Philippine focal point to the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nation) Committee on Women (ACW).

Verzosa said the conference is one of the three conferences aimed at mainstreaming gender perspective across the three ASEAN pillars “which forms part of the country’s commitment” to the implementation of the ACW Work Plan 2016-2020.

“It seeks to increase the understanding of ASEAN sectoral bodies on gender mainstreaming,” Verzosa stated in her letter dated June 14.

She said the conference also aims to come up with a set of recommendations to mainstream gender perspectives in the plans and activities of the various sectoral bodies of the three ASEAN pillars.

The three ASEAN pillars include political and security community (APSC), economic community (AEC), and ASCC.

Versoza has specifically requested the Philippine News Agency, Philippine Information Agency, People’s Television Network, Inc. and Radio Television Malacanang to cover the event.

The Philippines chaired the ASEAN in 2017, the same year the regional bloc of 10 nations celebrated its 50th year anniversary.

The ASEAN member countries include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. (PNA)
