PDEA distributes P189-M worth of equipment to regional units

MANILA — To boost its operations capability in line with the government’s anti-illegal drugs drive, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Thursday distributed vehicle, computer and forensic equipment worth PHP189 million to its units.

PDEA Director General Aaron N. Aquino, who led the distribution in a ceremony, said the agency has equipped its units to continuously build up its capabilities and mobility in the war against drugs.

“Of course, this will enhance the operational capability, especially of our regional headquarters. And again, these body cameras are to be used by the operative agents to ensure the legitimacy of our operations. We will show that all of our operations are legitimate to disprove allegations of extra judicial killings,” Aquino said in a press conference.

To boost the productivity of its personnel, the agency purchased 135 computer units worth PHP8,257,901.79 and 86 units of a device worth PHP89.79 million to improve the efficiency of digital investigations.

To improve mobility, PDEA acquired 43 units of Toyota Hi-Ace worth PHP61.83 million, 20 units of Toyota Vios worth PHP17.28 million, and 151 units of Yamaha motorcycles worth PHP11.93 million.

“PDEA has put priority on the modernization of its logistics and capabilities in keeping with President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s order to intensify the war against drugs,” Aquino said.

While he admitted that the illegal drug trades in the country remain prevalent despite their massive campaign, Aquino said they are continuously enhancing their operations nationwide to curb the illegal drug menace.

“They are always one step ahead of us. If we do something, subsequently, they also have another modus to evade everything. They always find a way. So, we are also doing that now in PDEA, finding methods for us to be at least one step ahead,” he noted. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
