Pepito’s agri damage hits ₱92M in Cagayan

The province of Cagayan has recorded zero casualty from tropical storm Pepito, but the worth of agricultural damage covering palay and corn that were up for harvesting has reached ₱92 million.

Aside from the damage caused by the flooding and strong winds following days of downpour, farmers were unable to dry their palay yield which resulted in unexpected sprouting.

Authorities reported that no casualties were recorded in the region. Latest data from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) Region 2 show that 15 towns were hit by the tropical storm, affecting 494 families or 1,703 individuals.

“Hinihiling po natin sa ating mga kababayan ang inyong kooperasyon para po makamit po natin ang ating aim pagka may mga kalamidad na ma-zero casualty po tayo at minimal damage (We are asking for the cooperation of our citizens to achieve our aim of zero casualty and minimal damage in times of calamity),” Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-2 Reg. Dir. Harold Cabreros urged.

Local governments units and the DSWD have already distributed relief packs to affected residents, particularly the evacuees and households hit by flooding. – Report from Oliver Baccay/ PIA-Region 2
