Meanwhile, vaccine czar and National task Force Against COVID-19 chief implementer Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. on Thursday (Sept. 2), in an interview with CNN Philippines, said the government hopes to vaccinate at least 20 million individuals by the end of September.

“We are focusing on the [second] dose. At least maitaas natin ang capacity ng ating vaccination sites. We will aspire na we can get the 20 million [fully vaccinated individuals] by the end of the month,” he said.

Galvez said they are coordinating with vaccine manufacturers to scale up the delivery of vaccines to the country.

“We already negotiated with our manufacturer to scale up their production and delivery this coming month. Kinakausap na namin ‘yung Sinovac, Pfizer, Moderna, and Sputnik na they can deliver as much as millions of vaccine,” Galvez said.

So far, 52 million vaccines have arrived in the Philippines. The country is expecting 25 million vaccines to arrive this September and 30 million in October. – bny
