The Philippine government supports the two-state solution to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Malacañang said on Thursday, June 26.

“Ang Pilipinas po ay laging sumusuporta sa two-state solution to independent states na Palestine at Israel na mag-co-exist side by side na kinikilala ang kani-kanilang borders,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said in a press briefing.

Castro’s statement was in response to Palestinian Ambassador to the Philippines Mounir Anastas’ call on the Philippines to convince Israel to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In a media interview on Tuesday, June 24, Anastas said the Philippines should “apply some pressure” to ensure that Israel respects the humanitarian question in Gaza and the West Bank.

The government also supports a lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East under the UN Charter and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.

The Palace press briefer said the Philippine government also supports a “lasting and comprehensive” peace in the Middle East, in accordance with the United Nations (UN) Charter and relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.

During his intervention at the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 27, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called for adherence to international humanitarian law amid the Gaza crisis.

The Chief Executive expressed deep concern over the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, seeking the protection of civilians, especially women and children, as well as the facilitation of humanitarian assistance to all those who are in need. (PNA)
