PH community pantry, ‘bayanihan spirit’, reach Timor-Leste

The Philippine community pantry has gone international as it inspired some residents of the country Timor-Leste to create their own “bayanihan spirit” by giving free food to those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a Facebook post, Philippine Vice Consul in Timor-Leste Laser Sumagaysay said his diplomat friends showed interest in the community pantry idea after he explained the concept of bayanihan and showed some photos of the initiative in the Philippines.

Sumagaysay added that he is among the supporters of the people who launched the first community pantry in Timor-Leste that provides aid to the victims of flooding in Dili and to those affected by the Covid-19 lockdown.

Meanwhile, some residents in Dili have organized their own community pantries.
