The National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 said the second day of the three-day national vaccination drive has improved as local governments address the challenges encountered during the program’s first day.
These include the accommodation of walk-in vaccine recipients in select vaccination sites, while local governments were given more time to transmit their vaccination data.
“Very orderly na ngayon, nakapag-adjust na sila sa issues na nangyari noong first day. Nakita natin talagang dinagsa ng mga tao,” NTF chief implementer and vaccine Czar Sec. Carlito Galvez Jr. said.
Data from the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) show that Regions 4A, 3, 6, 7, and 5 were among the top performing regions in the Bayanihan Bakunahan program.
The government has been eyeing to incentivize areas with high vaccination rates.
More volunteers will also be deployed in the second round of Bayanihan Bakunahan on Dec. 15 to Dec. 17 to areas facing challenges in meeting their vaccination targets.
A total of 2,166,946 first doses, 419,793 second doses, and 61,000 booster shots were administered on Nov. 29. The NVOC said the figures are more than twice the country’s weekly vaccination average rate.
Fifth highest
The country’s latest daily jab rate ranks fifth worldwide in terms of countries with the highest single-day vaccination, following China, India, United States, and Brazil.
NTF deputy chief implementer Sec. Vince Dizon said ramping up vaccination is needed amid the threat posed by the Omicron variant.
World Health Organization (WHO) Country Rep. Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe also reminded the public to be cautious, and advised the expansion of the country’s biosurveillance activities.
“Assuming there’s a risk and implementing risk-based approaches, increasing preparedness — that’s what we need to do. We don’t need to overreact, we just need to be rational in our approach,” he said. – Report from Mark Fetalco/AG-rir
