The Philippines jumped to the 33rd place in Nikkei Asia’s latest COVID-19 Recovery Index for May, moving up from the 57th place in December 2021.
Based on the Tokyo-based financial magazine’s report on May 31, the Philippines, along with Vietnam, logged the best performance for managing COVID-19 cases. The country ranked 121st place in September 2021.
The Index assessed countries and regions based on their infection management, vaccine rollouts, and social mobility.
“The higher the ranking, the closer a place is to recovery, characterized by lower infection and death rates, better inoculation coverage, as well as fewer movement restrictions,” Nikkei Asia said.
Meanwhile, the Philippines is now ahead of 88 countries in the list, including Switzerland (38), Israel (44), Japan (53), United Kingdom (58), Canada (60), Australia and Hong Kong (71), New Zealand (75), Singapore (79), the United States (89) and China (93). – gb
