Despite the surge of cases and the ongoing modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), through the PRC Cebu Chapter, rolled out its Hot Meals on Wheels food truck last Saturday (Aug. 21), in Sitio Agbati, Hagnaya San Remigio.
“Nais natin na mas marami ang ating maabot at mabigyan ng tulong sa gitna ng pandemya. Basta’t may pagtutulungan, malalampasan natin ito! Great work, Red Cross, for the swift action,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Richard Gordon said.
According to PRC Cebu Chapter Administrator Maria Vera de Jesus, “We have provided hot meals to 198 individuals from the food trucks deployed from PRC National Headquarters.”
The PRC currently has a total of 23 Hot Meals on Wheels food trucks deployed nationwide. Each food truck can make 800 meals during an eight-hour operation.
As for PRC’s vaccination program, last Aug. 22 a total of 441 individuals in Brgy. Canduman, Mandaue were vaccinated in the PRC Bakuna Bus provided by UBE Express.
As of Aug. 21, Red Cross volunteers and staff vaccinated a total of 8,325 individuals in PRC Bakuna Buses nationwide. Currently, PRC has deployed the Bakuna Buses in nine areas: Marikina, Mandaluyong, Navotas, Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue City.
Outside of the vaccines provided by the national government, the PRC shoulders all other costs including for syringes, mobilization, and vaccinator allowances.
