PH Sports heroes return home after Hanoi Games stint

Some members of the Philippine national team returned to the country Sunday, May 14, after their action-packed journey in the ongoing 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) welcomed the Team Philippines athletes from competing in Wushu, E-sports, Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, Basketball 3×3, Rowing and Football.

The Philippine wushu team added two golds,one silver, and five bronze medals to the country’s medal collection for this edition of SEA Games.

Filipino jujitsuka and juijiteiro contributed two for each of the gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Baguio-based stable Team Lakay bagged two golds, four silvers, and two bronze for the kickboxing event of the biennial regional meet.

Even though the Gilas women’s 3×3 team fell short of a podium finish and the Gilas men’s 3×3 was dethroned, the men’s team still managed to shoot for bronze.

The Philippine rowing squad failed to paddle a gold medal, but out of the 16 categories of the rowing event, they bagged two silvers and seven bronze.

Team Sibol also received a warm welcome despite bowing out of medal contention in the biennial meet for Garena Free Fire, League of Legends: Wild Rift, and FIFA Online 4 event. 

The men’s and women’s national football team also bowed out of contention after a 4-0 loss to Indonesia in the men’s football competition, and the Filipinas losing a 1-2 heartbreaker to host nation Vietnam.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Karatedo, judo, billiards, vovinam team, and the other members of gymnastics and athletics departed last Sunday night to Hanoi, Vietnam. The other members of the esports, cycling, and weightlifting team are scheduled to fly Monday night to continue the gold medal hunt of Team Philippines. – ag
