PH triathletes fall short in Japan Olympic qualifiers

The three national triathletes failed to make it to the top ten at the 2021 Asia Triathlon Championships held in Hatsukaichi, Japan over the weekend.

Out of 16 contenders in the Elite Women’s category, back-to-back Southeast Asian Games Gold medalist Kim Mangrobang finished 11th while 2019 SEA Games gold medalist Fernando Casares came in 13th out of 27 entries in the Men’s Elite category.

Meanwhile, 2019 SEA Games silver medalist Andrew Kim Remolino failed to finish the race due to muscle cramps in the middle of the swimming event.

In a Facebook post, the Cebu native triathlete apologized for his performance as he wrote, “Just wanted to apologize to all the people that I disappointed. Was feeling good in the first few meters on the swim but suddenly my arms froze because of the temperature of the water.”

“But still, I just want to say thank you to everyone who supported me especially to my family, Go for Gold, TRAP [Triathlon Association of the Philippines], PSC [Philippine Sports Committee], POC [Philippine Olympic Committee], and all the coaching staff. Despite this bad performance of mine I just want to say to everyone that I promise that I’ll bounce back right away and keep on improving myself and be better in this sport.”
