DAVAO CITY – An exhibition and film screening of the “Bird of Prey” opened on Tuesday at SM Annex to kick-off the Philippine Eagle week celebration here.

The exhibition–a collaboration among SM City Davao, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) and the Energy Development Corporation–is also timed as the pair of captive-bred Philippine eagles, Sambisig and Geothermica, traveled to Singapore for a 10-year mission.

The exhibition and film screening hosted by SM is part of the awareness and education campaign aimed at the conservation of the Philippine eagles, which are considered endangered species.

PEF head of Logistics and human resource officer Gliceria Ibanez said the travel of Sambisig and Geothermica on Tuesday to Singapore aims to promote further research on breeding at the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS). It is a 10-year loan program agreement between the Philippine government and Singapore.

“Hopefully the study will have positive results just like the endangered Philippine Cockatoo bird where the study in the Jurong Park of WRS was successful,” Ibanez said.

SM City Davao mall manager Lynette Lopez has invited Dabawenyos to learn more about the Philippine Eagle and watch the free movie screening on June 12 at Cinema 3.

Dabawenyos can also take photos at the eagle wings photo wall and encouraged them to post in social media to help spread about the celebration, Lopez said.
