Philippine Navy, bibili ng bagong shore-based missile system

Kinumpirma ni Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana na pinirmahan na niya ang notice of award para sa Philippine Navy shore-based anti-ship missile acquisition project.

Ayon kay Lorenzana, ang nasabing proyekto ay una nang inaprubahan ng Office of the President bilang bahagi ng Horizon 2 priority projects noong 2020.

Ang shore-based anti-ship missile project na nagkakahalaga ng $375 milyon ay bibilhin mula sa BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd. ng India.

Sinabi ni Lorenzana na nakipagnegosasyon ang Philippine government sa gobyerno ng India para mapasama sa delivery ang tatlong batteries, ang pagsasanay ng mga operators at maintainers, gayundin ang integrated logistics support (ILS) package.

Sinabi ng kalihim na ang bagong strategic defense system na ipapamahala sa Coastal Defense Regiment ng Philippine Marines ay malaking “boost” sa defense capability ng bansa.

Ang BrahMos cruise missile ay maaaring i-launch sa pamamagitan ng barko, aircraft, submarine, o sa kalupaan, at may kakayahan na magdala ng warheads na may bigat na 200 hanggang 300 kilograms.

Ang missile ay mayroong flight range hanggang 290 kilometro na supersonic speed, ayon sa BrahMos. (Radyo Pilipinas)  -ag
