PhilSys Surpasses 3 Million for Step 1 Registration

As of 04 November 2020, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported 3,315,422 Filipinos have completed Step 1 Registration to the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys). Conducted in 32 provinces nationwide, this activity entails the house-to-house collection of demographic information of select low-income household heads.

“Given the current count and the pace of our operations, we are confident that we will hit our 9 million target for Step 1 Registration before the year ends,” said PSA Undersecretary and National Statistician Claire Dennis S. Mapa.

“Our field operations slowed down due to Super Typhoon Rolly but we are still on track. The high productivity recorded during the first three weeks compensated for the reduced registrations during the typhoon. In fact, we have already reached 120 percent of the target as of November 4,” said PSA Assistant Secretary Rosalinda P. Bautista, Deputy National Statistician of the PhilSys Registry Office.

PSA reported 46 registrations per enumerator per day and a 5-minute registration time, excluding travel time, on the average. Details of the latest Step 1 Registration progress can be accessed at the PSA website.

Starting 25 October 2020, PSA included a question on supporting documents or valid IDs of the registrants in line with the Step 2 Registration. More than 88 percent of the registrants signified the availability of supporting documents that they can use for the next step.

Set to begin this year, Step 2 is the capturing of biometric information such as fingerprints, iris, and facial photographs at designated registration centers. Step 3 is the issuance of the PhilSys Number (PSN) and the physical ID (PhilID).

PhilSys aims to provide Filipinos a formal identification that can be digitally verified. It will help low-income families to open bank or e-money accounts for a more efficient and safer distribution of government assistance given the COVID-19 pandemic and in response to calamities such as Typhoon Rolly.
