PHIVOLCS monitors Kanlaon Volcano activity

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is monitoring the series of earthquakes at the right side of Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island. Three earthquakes have been reported within 24 hours. The volcano has also emitted white smoke with a height of 200 meters going northwest.

Alert level 1 has been raised over areas around the volcano. The public has been prohibited to go within the 4-kilometer radius permanent danger zone. Pilots have also been barred from flying over Mt. Kanlaon’s crater to avoid the possible emission of ashes. – PTV News
