MALAYSIA—The Philippine lawn bowls team defeated powerhouse Malaysian national team in the men’s fours finals at the National Lawn Bowls Center in Bukit Kiara, Malaysia on Thursday.

The country last played lawn bowls in the Southeast Asian games way back 2007, where the national team collected 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.

Team Philippines was led by 2005 gold medalist Ronald Lising, while host Malaysia was captained by Safuan Said, a world champion athlete.

Besides Lising, Curte Robert Guarin, Emmanuel Portacio and leoncio Carreon bannered for the Philippine quartet.

World-class technique, impressive tactical planning, and superb accuracy in hitting the “jack” was the key factor that steered the 16-to-14 victory of team Philippines.

“Napakalas nila… pero sa puso at isipan namin, dala-dala namin ang Pilipinas… nag handa kami ng sampung taon para dito… teamwork at tiwala lang kaya kami nanalo, Lising said.”

Meanwhile, Team Thailand seized the bronze medal price after crushing Brunei with a score of 17-to-14.
