PH, hakot agad ng medalya sa SEA Games

Hataw agad ang Team Pilipinas sa paghakot ng medalya bago pa ang opisyal na pagbubukas ng 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games kanina, Mayo 12, sa My Dinh Stadium sa Hanoi, Vietnam.

Mula sa pilak na medalya noong 2019 SEA Games, nasungkit ni Mary Francine Padios ang unang gintong medalya ng bansa sa pagwawagi nito sa Pencak Silat Women’s Seni (Artistic) Tunggal Single event, sa kabila ng pag-aalala sa amang kasalukuyang comatose sa ospital.

Nagtala si Padios ng 9.960 upang maagaw ang korona kay 2019 SEA Games gold medalist Arum Saril ng Indonesia na may 9.945 na puntos.

Pasok naman sa podium finish ang kanyang teammates na sina Jefferson Rhey Loon Abilay,James El Mayagma, at Rick Rod Ortega Luarez para sa men’s team event.

Bigo man makakuha ng ginto ang Filipino beach handball team kontra Vietnam sa larong nagtapos sa iskor na 1-2, malaking level-up na ang silver medal para sa koponan mula sa kanilang tansong medalya noong 2019 SEA Games.

Pumakyaw naman ang Philippine kurash team na sina Helen Aclopen,Charme Quelino, at Sydney Sy ng tatlong pilak; at Renzo Czaenas, Al Llamas, at George Baclagan ng tatlong tanso sa kani-kanilang dibisyon.

Wala man sariling bangka ang Philippine rowers ay sumagwan naman sina Tokyo Olympian Cris Nievarez at Christian Joseph Jasmin ng silver medal sa men’s doubles lightweight sculls sa clock time na 7:05:585 seconds, mas mababa sa Indo tandem nina Ardi Kasadi and Kakan Usmana na 7:01.385.

Pinoy team spirit naman ang ipinakita ng quartet nina Joannie del Gaco, Amelyn Pagulauyan, Mireille Cua, at Kristine Paraon sa pagbulsa ng bronze medal sa women’s quadruple sculls sa oras na 7:28.879.

Sa kasalukuyan, may isang gold, limang silvers, at limang bronze medals ang bansa upang maka rango sa pang-apat na puwesto ng SEA Games overall rankings, habang nangunguna  naman ang host Vietnam kasunod ang Malaysia at Indonesia. – ag
