MANILA — Malacañang on Sunday thanked Filipinos for believing that President Rodrigo R. Duterte can keep his promises after a survey showed that almost half of Filipinos expect him to fulfill them.
A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, conducted Dec. 16 to 18, 2018, showed that 48 percent of Filipinos expect the President to fulfill his promises, two points higher than results of the March 2018 survey wherein 46 percent believed the President can keep his promises.
Out of this number, 35 percent believe the President can fulfill “most of his promises” while 13 percent believe Duterte can fulfill “all or nearly all.”
Meanwhile, 6 percent believed the President could fulfill “none” or “almost none” of his promises.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo attributed this “favorable satisfaction rating” to the President’s drive in fighting illegal drugs, combating crimes and stamping out corruption.
“These three main issues form the heart of PRRD’s campaign platform in 2016 and the Filipinos witnessed the voluntary surrender of more than a million drug personalities, the making of safe neighborhoods in the cities, as well as the firing of erring officials in the government, including long-time friends, allies, relations, and fraternity brods,” Panelo said in a statement.
Panelo, meanwhile, urged Filipinos to continue believing that the President will keep his promises especially those that help improve their lives.
“We urge the people to continue putting their faith in our President in the remainder of his term even as we remain committed in fulfilling our aspiration for a comfortable and crime-free life in the Philippines,” Panelo said.
In his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) in 2018, the President vowed to make the crackdown on illegal drugs “as relentless and chilling” as it first began.
Duterte has also sacked several Cabinet officials and law enforcement officials warning them of being fired if they get involved in even a “whiff of corruption.”
