MANILA — The French embassy in Manila has highlighted the successful opening of the 24th French Film Festival as a sign of the continuing people-to-people and film industry relations of Paris and Manila.

“This (French Film Festival in the Philippines) is about bringing the best of French movies to Filipino audience to give them a glimpse of the French society, culture, values, and tradition,” Ambassador Nicolas Galey said during the red carpet event for the annual affair in Makati City Tuesday night.

This year’s film fest, which focuses on films inspired by family and relationships, opened with director Nils Tavernier’s work The Ideal Palace (L’Incroyable histoire du Facteur Cheval).

In her speech, Liza Diño thanked the French embassy in Manila for organizing the annual film event which she described as “one of the strongest annual film festivals in the country.”

“Our French counterpart has always been active in collaborating with film and the rest of the creative industries in the country to empower and embolden our industries to become world-class and this collaboration goes well beyond the festival,” she said.

“French Film fest for us is beyond just being a festival, it has become a platform for collaboration and cooperation, it has become a seat for us to find opportunities to exchange not just our films but our talents, share the best practices of one of the leading film industries in the world,” she added.

The official screening of at least 15 contemporary French films for the public starts Wednesday in Makati. Tickets are priced at PHP150 and may be purchased at the box office or through sureseats.com.
