PNP-12 launches community-based policing initiative

GENERAL SANTOS CITY–The Police Regional Office 12 (Soccsksargen) launched on Thursday a community-based policing initiative to strengthen public participation in peacekeeping and crime prevention.

Chief Supt. Marcelo Morales, PRO-12 director, said Friday their personnel will visit local communities in the coming days as part of their new project dubbed “Oplan Kaagapay”.

Morales said the initiative primarily entails information and education campaigns and other community-centered activities that draw the participation of local residents.

A project of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB) 12, Oplan Kaagapay is among the highlights of the ongoing 23rd celebration of police community relations month in the region.

Activities lined up are the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) sessions; media relations caravans; blood-letting; gift-giving; feeding program; tree growing; coastal clean-up and mangrove planting; church-based programs; community anti-terrorism awareness; medical and dental mission; bomb threat awareness; sex education lectures; friendship games; journalism, media relations and technical writing seminars; community dialogues; and distribution of leaflets on anti-terrorism.

Morales lauded RMFB-12, headed by Supt. Maximo Sebastian Jr., for leading the initiative to help bring the PNP closer to local stakeholders.

The official said the unit has already accomplished so much in fulfilling the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) mission and vision through its numerous accomplishments in anti-illegal drugs and anti-criminality campaign in the region.

Last year, RMFB-12 emerged as the best regional public safety unit in the entire country.

“It has done well in crafting initiatives and in finding ways to improve their performance and delivering services to the community with excellence,” Morales said in a statement. (PNA)
