PNP-AFP ops bust explosives trade in Cavite

Police and military operatives seized a huge cache of bomb-making materials from two persons in Cavite on Thursday (Oct. 14).

PNP Chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar rushed to Cavite to personally assess the developments of a police operation jointly carried out by Philippine National Police (PNP) units led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Cavite Police Provincial Office in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and other PNP support units.

“In view of my directive to ensure the safety of the nation from terrorism and criminality, the CIDG Cavite Provincial Field Unit arrested two suspects for selling explosives material and paraphernalia,” Eleazar said in an on-site news conference at the Cavite CIDG Provincial Field Unit in Imus, Cavite.

Citing the reports of CIDG Director Police Maj. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro, ELeazar identified the arrested suspects as Charlito Tenorio y Marpil, 52, of Noveleta, Cavite; and Jar-Ar Amonggo Suson, 34, of Tayabas, Quezon.

According to Eleazar, Tenorio was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Brgy. Bacao 2, General Trias City, Cavite at 12:30 p.m., while Suson, the alleged mastermind, was arrested at 5:30 p.m. in Tayabas, Quezon.

Confiscated from the suspects were 750 kilograms of ammonium nitrate contained in 30 25-kilogram sacks, and 1,000 pieces of improvised blasting caps, all loaded in a commuter van.

According to Ferro, the confiscated explosives components worth P200,000 were being negotiated for sale by the suspects.

Eleazar instructed Ferro to dig deeper into the activities of the suspects to identify all persons involved in their operations as well as their clients.

The PNP chief said this type of explosive materials are “commonly used for industrial purposes, but can also be used as components for improvised explosive devices.”

“With this successful operation, we may have prevented the possibility of these materials being used for criminal activities,” Eleazar said.

Ferro described the seized explosives as having a blast radius of 1.5 kilometers. (PNP-PIO) – jlo
