PNP, AFP ready for ECQ extension

The country’s security forces have expressed readiness for the extension of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

According to the Philippine National Police (PNP), its personnel on the ground are enough to man quarantine checkpoints. Joint Task Force Corona Virus Shield Commander and PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar added a regular rotation is being followed to prevent police overexposure.

Eleazar also mentioned PNP Chief Pol. Gen. Archie Gamboa ensured “the support to the operations” to “sustain this implementation of the guidelines given by the IATF.”

Gamboa earlier said the creation of the Administrative Support for COVID-19 Operations Task Force led by Pol. Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan is part of their preparation for the longer days of ECQ up ahead.

Gamboa said they have been preparing “optimum and efficient management, distribution and utilization of resources and supply chain for the long haul.”

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary and National Task Force for COVID-19 Chairperson Delfin Lorenzana shared military and medical personnel have been prepped and are ready for the extension of the ECQ.

Lorenzana reiterated President Rodrigo Duterte’s appeal to “stay calm and not create disorder.”

“The problem with this pandemic is that one cannot relax too soon or else it comes back with a vengeance. Lubusin na natin ang sakripisyo (Let’s be all out in our sacrifice). If we work together this will be over soon,” Lorenza advised. – Report from Bea Bernardo
