PNP Chief: No EJKs in the PH

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police Lieutenant General Camilo Cascolan has reiterated that there are no extrajudicial killings (EJKs) in the Philippines after news surfaced that state forces are behind them.

The new PNP Chief pointed out that President Rodrigo R. Duterte and the government do not support killings. He urged that whoever holds information regarding EJK must go directly to the police for an investigation to commence on the matter.

In its recent report, around 440 police officers are in the National Drug Watchlist of the PNP while 495 are listed in the Counter Intelligence List. The adjudication process against cops involved in illegal drugs is ongoing.

He pointed out that the main objective of the police force in the campaign against illegal drugs is to reduce the number of drug users in the country and to save the public.

Cascolan disclosed that one of his priorities as PNP Chief is to regain the public’s trust in the national police that is why he is pushing for the organization’s internal cleansing. – Report from Bea Bernardo
