PNP conducts investigation on spread of fake FB accounts

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is conducting an investigation on the spread of fake and duplicated accounts on Facebook.

PNP Chief Police General Archie Gamboa stated in a briefing that he ordered the PNP Anti-Cybercrime group to investigate the matter.

According to PNP Chief Gamboa, they have asked the Facebook administrator for cooperation to point out persons behind the fake accounts. He believes that the investigation will be quicker with the help of Facebook.

The PNP Chief has also warned the creators of fake accounts that they will face criminal charges. However, the PNP also do not see any connection between “Political Destabilization” and the spread of fake Facebook accounts amid the protests against the anti-terrorism bill. – Report from Patrick De Jesus
