The Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported a 14.42% decrease in crime volume from December 1 to 20 compared to the numbers during the same period in 2021.

Citing data from PNP’s Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM), PNP Chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin said the total crime volume for said period dropped to 9,108 this year  from 10,642 in 2021.

A 29.79% decline was also recorded in eight focus crimes including murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, vehicle theft, motorcycle theft, and rape at 1,636 cases from last year’s 2,330.

“Among these eight focus crimes, the top three most prevalent crimes from December 1 to 20, 2022, were theft, rape and physical injury with recorded cases of 609, 262, and 211 which is lower than the previous year, with 710,567 and 331 cases respectively,” Azurin said.

Azurin attributed the crime volume decline to the maximum deployment of PNP personnel nationwide, especially during the long holiday season, as well as the government’s anti-drug campaign and the implementation of KASIMBAYANAN Program.

The official said solution efficiency for 2022 also improved due to E-projects like e-Rouge, e-Blotter, and e-Warrant, as well as investigators’ dedication and passion. He said DIDM data showed Crime Solution Efficiency rose from 78.54% to 82.47%.

Azurin commended all the members of PNP for “doing their job excellently” that led to the success of their initiatives against crimes amid the “great odds and overwhelming challenges.”

“We assure the public that we will sustain the momentum and further improve our deliverables for the benefit of our main clientele, the Filipino people,” he said.

“Tulong-tulong tayong panatilihing maayos at payapa ang ating kumunidad tungo sa isang bansang maunlad at nagkakaisa,” he continued.  -ag
