The Philippine National Police (PNP) wanted to respond quickly as they look into the new matrix released by President Rodrigo Duterte, with the names of those who are allegedly funding the siege in Marawi City.

“From the level of the PNP, we are looking into the list, ‘yung link ng local officials in the area, money trail ito of those who are involved in the incident in Marawi, kung ano ‘yung mga validated information that would support the given diagram,” PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Dionardo Carlos said in a press conference on Monday.

As part of their investigation, Carlos stated that the PNP will start looking on illegal activities that possibly funding the activities supporting the terrorists.

“Ano ba ang activites that would generate funding for terrorism? Titignan diyan ‘yung other criminal activities if they are linked to terrorism. Makikita na ‘yan ‘yung possibleng nagpafunding sa different terrorist activities gaya ng drugs, contrabands,” he stated.

“They would do anything para mag-survive ‘yung kanilang illegal activities,” he added.

President Duterte on Friday presented to the reporters a new drug matrix that linked the terrorist Maute Group to illegal drugs.

In the said matrix, he stated that there are more than 30 Lanao del Sur officials and a businessman involved in the illegal drug trade.

According to the president, Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog was one of those who helped finance the pro-ISIS Maute group when they attacked Marawi City – which was bared from the product of “intelligence for the last three months or two.” | Tretch Melarpes – PTV
