PNP forms task group to probe Ozamiz judge killing

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to probe the killing of Ozamiz City Executive Judge Edmundo Pintac on Monday.

In a press conference on Tuesday, PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Benigno Durana Jr., said Senior Supt. Emmanuel Hebron, Provincial Director of Ozamiz, has been assigned by Region 10 director Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb to head the SITG.

Pintac was one of the judges handling the cases involving the Parojinog drug cartel, particularly against Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog and her brother Reynaldo.

Tinitignan lahat ng anggulo sa pagpaslang (We are looking at all angles behind the killing), I just talked with the OIC of the Ozamiz (police) looking into the cases that are being handled or have been handled by the late judge para matingnan ang (so we can determine the) possible motive at makita din possible suspect sa pagpaslang (and for us to be able to identify possible suspects behind the killing),” Durana told reporters.

The PNP spokesman said investigators are also set to talk to the family members of the slain judge.

“It is prudent for the investigators to give the family a little space para for them to grieve before our investigators can sit down with them para matingnan kung meron ngang (so that we will know if there are) death threats so that we can narrow down the possible motives and at the same time the possible suspects sa pagpaslang kay (in the killing of) Judge Pintac.”

Supt. Surki Sereñas, police regional spokesperson, said Pintac was shot to death at around 4:20 p.m. at Barangay Banadero, Ozamiz City.

In August last year, Pintac denied a plea by the Parojinog siblings for furlough to allow them to attend the funeral of their parents, then Ozamiz City mayor Reynaldo Parojinog and his wife Susan, who were killed along with 13 others in a drug raid by police on July 30, 2017. (Christopher Lloyd Caliwan/PNA)
