PNP honors men in uniform, Bataan heroes

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) commemorated Monday men in uniform who have fallen in the line of duty.

“The men and women of the PNP join our nation in giving honors to the Filipino soldiers who gave their lives and treasure so that we may all live in peace and freedom,” PNP spokesman John Bulalacao said in a statement.

“We pay respect to the heroes whose lives were sacrificed and whose blood was poured during the war in an unbroken tradition of a true Filipino value thirsting for freedom,” he added.

April 9 is Araw ng Kagitingin (Day of Valor), a national holiday originally for Filipino soldiers who fought during the World War II against the Japanese Imperial Army in the Bataan peninsula.

Figures from the government’s “Real Numbers” show that 87 policemen have been killed in the war against illegal drugs from July 1, 2016 to Feb. 8 this year. (PNA)
