PNP honors SAF 44 thru commemorative bike ride

MANILA — The Philippine National Police will spearhead on Sunday a commemorative bike ride to pay tribute to the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos who died in a mission to neutralize Malaysian terrorist and bomb-maker Zulkipli Bin Hir alias “Marwan” in 2015.

Newly-appointed head of the PNP Directorate for Police Community Relations (DPCR) Director Eduardo Serapio Mayote Garado said the event will start at 4 a.m. at Luneta Park, Manila on January 28.

The route of the bike ride, dubbed “The Commemoration Ride for the Gallant SAF 44,” will pass through the SAF Headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa, Bicutan, Taguig City, going to PNP SAF Training School in Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

The finish line will be at the PNP Academy (PNPA) in Silang, Cavite.

The National Bikers Organization will be joining the PNP in this activity, said Garado.

Police personnel will hold a wreath-laying ceremony during the culminating activity at the SAF 44 Monument in the PNPA complex.

Garado said all PNP units are invited to participate in the activity.

He added that the presence and visibility of uniformed personnel on patrol (mobile and foot) shall be maximized.

“The objective of this activity is to integrate all the efforts for the advocacy campaign in grateful recognition of the supreme sacrifice made by the Gallant SAF 44, and to commemorate their heroism. It also aims to generate popular support in promoting enduring peace in society,” the DPCR chief said. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
