PNP lifts gun ban in Ilocos after successful ASEAN forum

LAOAG CITY — Following the week-long Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) forum on urban resilience in this city, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has lifted the suspension of all Permits-to-Carry-Firearms-Outside-of-Residence (PTCFORs) on December 9.

Police Chief Superintendent Charlo Collado, Regional Director of PNP Region 1 and Task Group Laoag Commander, made the announcement after the successful conduct of the last leg of the ASEAN fora in the country on December 4-8.

The suspension of all permits to carry firearms outside residence is one way of ensuring security protocol in the province while hundreds of participants from the 10 ASEAN member states visited Ilocos Norte this week.

After the culminating program of the ASEAN forum, Collado lauded the efforts of all security personnel who were deployed round the clock in various areas of engagement of the visitors and for the cooperation of the public to ensure a peaceful conduct of the event.

Organized by the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the forum highlighted the sharing of information on strategies and experiences in addressing climate change and urban resilience among ASEAN member states including their renewal of commitment to stand up against the challenges of climate change. (PNA)
