MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the LRT-Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of agreement to ensure passenger safety and security.

The PNP was represented by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) head, Director Guillermo Eleazar, and Chief Supt. Noel Baraceros, director of PNP’s Center for Police Strategy Management (CPSM).

Meanwhile, LRMC chief executive officer and president Juan Felipe Alfonso led the signing of the MOA held at the LRT-1 central station in Manila.

Eleazar said the MOA signing is part of the PNP’s vision of a safer place to live in, work and do business through a highly capable, effective and credible police service.

“The fight against crime is not the sole responsibility of the PNP. It is collective endeavor that should entail the full support of the public. This we ask by being vigilant and by providing timely information to the PNP. With your support, we can altogether make our society less vulnerable to crimes,” Eleazar said in his speech delivered on behalf of Deputy Director General Camilo Cascolan, Chief of Directorial Staff.

The PNP CPSM spearheaded the partnership with LRMC-LRT1 to enhance public awareness on various modus operandi of criminal gangs, promoting crime prevention tips, and sharing PNP recruitment and vacancies and other PNP programs.

The LRMC is catering to some 400,000 passengers every day, making them a very strategic venue of sharing informative materials through posters, tarpaulins and short videos inside train stations.

The LRMC will also give free rides to PNP uniformed personnel and, in return, the PNP will assign female police officers to designated Police Assistance Desks to deter inappropriate advances harassment and other incidents within LRMC premises.
