The Philippine National Police (PNP)-Bicol is on full alert following the phreatic explosion of Mount Bulusan Sunday morning, June 5.

PNP Officer-in-Charge Lt. Gen. Danao Junior said the Bulusan Municipal Police Station and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office have been constantly monitoring the volcano’s activity to gear up for possible evacuation.

“Personnel of Bulusan Municipal Police Station (MPS), in coordination with the police stations in the vicinity, are continuously monitoring the activity of the said volcano for possible evacuation, search and rescue operations of affected residents in four barangay,” Danao said,

“The Bulusan MPS and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) have been actively giving caution to the residents near the 4-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone to avoid any casualties,” he added.

Danao assured that PNP personnel are ready to respond to any unfortunate events.

“I know that the situation may also be difficult for our police personnel because their lives can also be at risk, but they have shown genuine service by way of monitoring and responding to this unfortunate event,” Danao said.

“We will keep watch of the development since anything can still happen. We remind the residents to be vigilant and cooperative whenever force evacuation is implemented,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Danao said Juban Municipal Police Station personnel are already coordinating with Juban Fire Station for the flushing of ashes from the road. – gb
