PNP-PDEA shootout probe continues, more evidence gathered

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday disclosed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has already gathered evidence needed in the probe on the controversial shootout between the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) along Commonwealth Avenue.

According to DOJ Undersecretary Adrian Sugay, the NBI has already talked to the witnesses of the incident while paraffin and ballistic tests are being conducted.

“Sa ngayon, tuloy-tuloy ang imbestigasyon po ng NBI (The investigation by the NBI is currently ongoing) and we hope that they will have something more concrete for us, more concrete findings within the next few days,” Sugay said.

Authorities are also examining the mobile phones of the individuals involved in the shooting incident.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier ordered the NBI to solely conduct an investigation on the gunfight between elements of the PDEA and PNP. At least five individuals were killed in the misencounter on the evening of February 24.
