PNP personnel under A4 get vaccinated vs. COVID-19

The government rolled out its COVID-19 vaccination program to Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel under priority group A4 or frontline essential workers.

PNP Chief Police Gen. Guillermo Eleazar was among the first to get inoculated with CoronaVac at Camp Crame today (June 15) in a bid to boost vaccine confidence among their units. At least 7% of those within their ranks are still hesitant to get the shot.

The PNP received 500 CoronaVac doses, with the National Headquarters and National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) receiving 200 doses each. The Special Action Force and Aviation Security Group each received 50 doses.

A total of 18,320 police personnel have been vaccinated, including those listed under other priority groups.

Eleazar said more vaccines will be allocated to the PNP, and that they are coordinating with local government units to provide vaccines to cops assigned within their areas.

The event was attended by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, who said that this proves the commitment of President Duterte to inoculate security forces in recognition of their heroism.

The PNP has already recorded 26,059 COVID-19 cases, 1,942 are active, and 71 succumbed to the disease. Eleazar said these figures do not obstruct their deployment and checkpoint operations. – Report from Bea Bernardo/AG- jlo
