PNP probing social media posts red-tagging Ninoy Aquino

By Gabriela Baron

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Sunday, Aug. 21, that they are probing social media posts red-tagging late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.

This after members of the maritime police in Batangas and Quezon posted on Saturday anti-communist messages on their social media accounts and used the hashtags “NinoyNotAHero” and “NinoyNPA.”

The posts were made a day before Ninoy Aquino Day, an official holiday commemorating the assassination of Aquino.

“The PNP does not engage in name calling that can malign any person’s reputation. We value respect for human dignity,” PNP said in a statement.

The PNP said the posts had since been taken down and assured that it is currently investigating to determine those responsible.

“If anyone in the organization is found accountable, appropriate disciplinary actions will be imposed.”
